 As the new year rings in, there is hope and optimism. Year 2010 was better than the previous one and hopefully 2011 will continue the positive growth momentum in the largest democratic market of the world.  

There was heavy action already in the global and Indian horological markets. The HH Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie announced a new Chair for the FHH. Geneva Time Exhibition has announced a Superwatch award and will draw global trade eyeballs towards this emerging event held in the beginning of the year. French brand B.R.M. meant for champions, for winners is making its presence felt in India. Swiss brand Tissot is organising several consumer connect initiatives. Carl F. Bucherer organised a joint promo with Facebook. Audemars Piguet collaborated with F1 celebrity Michael Schumacher for a fast-paced promo. Longines has launched the elegant Longines DolceVita steel and gold collection. Jaeger Le-Coultre conducted a joint promo by paying tribute to Feliciano Lopez. The glam-stuck Gitanjali Group associated with the annual Navy Ball 2010 in Mumbai. And Vacheron Constantin paid rich glowing tributes to art and culture.  

In terms of new launches, Frédérique Constant unveiled the ravishing Rendezvous. Tag Heuer heralded the return of the a Legend. Versace showcased the scintillating Italian Passion. Hamilton unveiled the latitude and longitude watch with attitude. Sinar & Onyx came up with a range moving faster than time. Milus unveiled the Tirion Triretrograde Seconds DLC. Romain Jerome showcased the Moon Dust DNA Black Mood White in a classical contrast. Chopard’s new line is all about generosity, personality and power. Timex tied up with fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani for a delectable watch couture offering. Titan Watches showed candid moments with several tributes to the spirit of Mumbai. In this issue, we showcase a special section of white coloured watches.

On the distribution front, Citizen continued its retail expansion drive.  The Temple of Time starts in Bhubaneshwar and gives credence to the growing power of Tier 2 cities in India.  Gupta Watch Company opened the largest multibrand watch showroom in UP, NCR and Uttaranchal in north India.

As the world looks forward to an optimistic new year, we look forward to the horological world’s leading trade exhibitions SIHH and BaselWorld 2011. Another much awaited exhibition is the Geneva Time Exhibition to be held in January 2011.
