Foreword

WMR - May 2016

Dear friends,

The Baselworld fair is over, but we are left with an aftertaste of some really beautiful watches and a sense of dramatic change. We acknowledge the pervasive way modern technology has crept into the watch industry. At the same time, we also saw that traditional techniques, classical styles and mechanical watches are here to stay. We are interested in this wonderful mélange. How will the horological universe adapt itself to the changing time? The industry has time and again redefined itself, and met up to the challenges that it has been faced with, while at the same time retaining its rich heritage. Watch out for our special Baselworld 2016 issue which will cover the fair in its entirety. Till then, do have a peek at some of the new watches in the current issue.

For the cover, we focus on Bell & Ross, which is now the official watch partner of the Renault Sport Formula One Team. With their new High-Tech Sporty Chronograph they have indeed surpassed barriers! In “Conversations” we talk to Kurt Hefti, International Sales Director, Bovet. The brand, popular amongst collectors is making a foray into the Indian market. We also have a conversation with Roger Wood, Klockwerks, who is known for his wonderfully whimsical clocks that not only tell the time, but are also a piece of art in themselves.

“The Essentials” and “Time Unleashed” talk about some interesting watches released at the Baselworld fair this March. But, as I mentioned before, there is much more to come. This is a mere sneak-peak into the fair that had a veritable collection of watches. “Talk of the Town” and “Events” covers the latest happenings in the watch world that you ought to know about.

Happy Reading!
