WMR - November 2017

Foreword

WMR - November 2017

Dear friends,

As we near the end of the year, it is time to take a pause and reflect on the past year. Indeed, this has been a very eventful year. With the effects of the demonetization and the implementation of the GST playing on, there has been much happening in the industry. The last few months were a transition phase post implementation of GST. While there was a general consensus in the industry that the earlier rate of 28% is too high, there was also the belief that with a more reasonable rate, the GST would streamline things. And that’s what has just happened, we have just got the news the GST is 18% now.

We are still in the midst of the festive and wedding season and this time of the year is always a good one for the industry as sales spike up. Our cover story highlights the Titan Regalia collection, a series of watches that have a very unique and different aesthetic of their own. Essentials and Time Unleashed covers some latest watches that would be apt buys during the festive period, for gifting purposes as well as for personal use. Talk of the Town sheds light on more fantastic timepieces that are making their presence felt!

This issue, we also have a series of interesting and diverse conversations. Yashovardhan Saboo, CEO, Ethos Watch Studios, and Founder and Chairman, KDDL gives us a detailed insight into the post-GST watch market. Suparna Mitra, Chief Marketing Officer, Watches and Accessories, Titan Company Limited, highlights the special and diverse offerings of the brand. Jatinder Nagpal from D’Signer Watches talks about the current horological scene. Lastly, in a very interesting interview, ace photographer Chirodeep Chaudhuri gives us a glimpse into his photographs of the clocks of Bombay. I promise this will take you into a very nostalgic mood, and you will see the city of ‘Mumbai’ in a new light.

I hope you enjoy reading this issue!

Please note: We have just got the news that the GST has finally been reduced to 18%.Please note that the interviews in the current issue and the content was all written and designed before this announcement, which came just minutes before we went into print, and hence reflects the old scenario of 28%.
