Cover Story

Hours and Minutes was present at a very special launch. Tissot, a long-established Swiss Brand launched the Tissot Chrono XL Classic Virat Kohli Special Edition with the man himself. The Tissot Chrono XL Classic Virat Kohli Special Edition brings Kohli on the watchmaker’s field…the ball is in his court now! We were present at the Press Conference where Kohli spoke to a select group of journalists about his favourite watch- the one he has designed himself.

It is very rare that an ambassador gets to participate in the making of a watch. Hence, the Virat Kohli Special Edition is a watch that is equally dear to the heart of our ace cricketer. Moreover, this is Tissot’s first watch dedicated to a cricketer, which makes it all the more special.

As we interacted with Kohli, shooting questions at him, he impressed the media with his knowledge of the intricacies of the watch that he has been instrumental in designing. Did he have any challenges designing the watch though? “Yes…to put the design elements in a way that does not look overdone or loud,” he states. He also added, “What fascinates me is the precision that goes into the making of a watch. Like in cricket, you need precision on your techniques! The passion, commitment and discipline of the watchmakers is commendable”.

Through all our watch talk we gauged that here is what he likes about the Tissot Chrono XL Classic Virat Kohli Special Edition: It’s got his jersey number 18, you can see it in red on the dial, his V logo is embossed on the dial, the colour blue used on the watch is his favourite as blue is the colour of the Indian jersey. The watch back has a very special thing- his signature and the limited-edition number. The chrome colour at the back was also his choice. The watch is great as casual wear and can easily transition into formal wear as well. It is timeless in that sense. Lastly, the detailing of the watch is astounding!
