Pre-Diwali time is always an exciting one for the watch market. We see a surge in the demand for watches for the purposes of gifting as well as personal use thanks to the indulgent festive season. We have been in the midst of new watch launches and boutique openings, which is a good sign for the industry.

However, on the other hand, what we also see is that watch fairs world-over are undergoing massive changes and transformations. With high-profile exits at Baselworld and some changes at the SIHH with two brands exiting in 2020, we get a sense of what these changes are. With increasing dependence on technology and social media, have brands found another way to connect to their customers? Have fairs lost their charm entirely? I don’t think so. We visited the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2018 and it reasserts our belief that face-to-face interactions with the people from the industry does have an important role to play. Time will tell how this plays out for the industry.

One of the most exciting watch launches that we’ve had recently is the Tissot Chrono XL Classic Virat Kohli Special Edition, which sees India’s favourite cricketer playing the role of a watch designer.
