Views on the Baselworld 2017 fair…

The show is okay. We have moved to new price points. We also have five brands now. We are getting bigger and bigger.

You have acquired brands, for example, Frederique Constant. Are you managing it yourself?

Not really. Not at the moment. In India, Frederique Constant is with the current distribution team. But yes, in the future we will. The direction will be decided soon.

Reflections on the past year in India…

In November there was a slug due to the demonetization. The GST will be introduced and we look forward to it. The market in India is not growing but still stable. Everybody is having a tough situation.

In comparison to other Japanese brands, what is Citizen doing differently?

We are not trying to get into the multi-brand business. We have several kinds of watches though.

Views on smartwatches?

I think they are good for some occasions and they do have a market. But, so many companies have introduced it but they are not booming as yet. But there is a market.

What collections are you focusing on?

We will introduce PROMASTER this year and focus on it. It is of three kinds: Marine, Air and Land. I don’t know why the diving watches are not very popular in India, compared to the other collections! After all, it is surrounded by the sea! Eco-Drive is growing and growing and getting very popular with the public. Indian people really appreciate it. You don’t have to worry about battery change forever in this watch.
