ORIS

IN CONVERSATION WITH ROLF STUDER, CO-CEO, ORIS

What are your views on the watch market?

It is a challenging situation. The industry was down last year. However, Oris was up last year, as we were in the previous year. Some things went quite well for us. I think this is because we stayed true to who we are: makers of mechanical watches with functions that make sense, at prices that make sense.

How was the Baselworld fair experience this year?

We were very busy. But, what I hear is that it is much quieter. Personally I think we have lost many exhibitors. I don’t like the fact that we are seeing some small boutique brands go away. I feel they are a very important part of the industry. But, let’s see what happens. For us it has been good. I do hope that the fair gets back some of its momentum.

Can you talk about Oris in India?

We partnered with Ethos to bring the brand to Indians. They have done a great job so far and we get along really well, even at a personal level. It was a good move for us. We had a subsidy here in India, and it is in the process of being closed, since we now have the exclusive partnership with Ethos.
