Some timeless designs are born out of inspirations from legends. One such collection in horology is the Cellini. The collection alludes to the past and commemorate a legend-Benvenuto Cellini. He was a sculptor and goldsmith to Renaissance popes and kings, and was a renowned expert in his field. Rolex created a watch collection that bears the master’s name.

The Cellini was launched in 2014 and the watches from this collection are dressier. The brand now revisits the classic Cellini collection and gets the magical beauty of the moonphase complication on the dial.

The watch is a subtly elegant dress watch. The 39 mm Cellini Moonphase is offered in 18 ct Everose gold. A white lacquer dial sets the elegant tone for the dial. Another interesting element of this watch is that the date can be read on the external track of the dial, that is, around the circumference of the dial, via a centre hand with a crescent moon at its tip. This combination of the moon phase and date pointer is quite unique. The watch has an elegant brown leather strap.

The moonphase disc itself is enameled. The striking blue looks highly refined. The disc depicts the new moon, full moon and starts in between.

The automatic movement calibre 3195 is chronometer-certified and comes with a five-year guarantee. The watch is astronomically accurate for the next 122 years! The moonphase is read via the indicator set at 12 o’clock on the subdial, as the full moon and new moon rotate through the lunar cycle.

This watch radiates a rare sophistication that can only come from a truly integrated manufacture that is the master of its art. The Cellini Moonphase is visually contemporary with a tiny bit of classical styling.
