CITIZEN

IN CONVERSATION WITH SHUNYA SHOJI, MANAGING DIRECT

How was last year for CITIZEN in India?

Due to the introduction of the GST in July last year, we had a bit of difficulty. From January onwards things are looking bright! We remain hopeful this year. We are expecting about 10% growth this year.

What are your views on the GST?

In the short term it does affect business. But for the long term, this tax system is good and it is simple. I think that the introduction of the GST will be good for the Indian market.

What are your views on the Baselworld?

It is important for us to participate. But yes, we are a bit
concerned. I hope more watchmakers come back here.

CITIZEN is celebrating 100 years. How will the brand celebrate the same?

We have invited media from countries in South East Asia to visit Japan, and experience the CITIZEN philosophy firsthand. We are talking about our values. The power of ER is a core value that we always focus on. We believe that “Better Starts Now”. That’s why, all our watches have something higher, deeper, smarter, smaller! This is the reason why we have had many ‘firsts’ to our name.

Any special plans for India?

Well, while CITIZEN celebrates 100 years of existence, this year we also celebrate 20 years of being in India. You will have to wait and watch!
