SIHH 2018 Report

SIHH 2018

MECCA OF LUXURY WATCHMAKING

The new year started ticking with a veritable watch show! This year saw a bigger Carré des Horlogers. From 30 exhibitors in 2017, to 34 in SIHH 2018, the fair is on the growth path. Indeed, the SIHH is expanding on par with its International renown. 18 Historic Maisons and 16 Carré des Horlogers brands all dedicated to achieving excellence in the measurement of time were there at the fair.

THE EXHIBITORS

Exhibiting Maisons included A.Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, Greubel Forsey, Hermès, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Parmigiani, Piaget, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Ulysse Nardin, Van Cleef & Arpels and Vacheron Constantin. Carré des Horlogers had the following brands:
Christophe Claret, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud , DeWitt, Grönefeld, H. Moser & Cie, Hautlence, HYT, Kari Voutilainen, Laurent Ferrier, MB&F, MCT-Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps, Ressence, Romain Gauthier, RJRomain Jerome, Speake Marin and Urwerk.

A NEW FORMULA

Featuring a strong focus on connectivity, the 28th edition
of this inherently professional fair, introduced a new formula that could in several ways be considered a new stage, as much in terms of the number of exhibitors as the many new features provided for visitors. The creation of the “SIHH Live” concept designed for enhanced networking, notably including the new auditorium, was a great success. The open day intended for connoisseurs and passionate Fine Watchmaking enthusiasts also gave the SIHH 2018 a whole new dimension.

TRENDS

One of the most exciting things about a fair is spotting trends that will dictate the course of the year. This time round, we saw many watches with interchangeable straps. Many brands veered towards the accessible luxury price points. Most hearteningly there was a balance between watches for men and women. In the past, one tended to see more creations for men. It is nice to observe that women watch collectors have become a promising group. The mood and the vibe at the fair seemed quite uplifted. This is a welcome change from the past few years where many global events had somehow cast a gloom over the market. Well, good times have begun!
